Washington, DC – Alderman, Devorsetz & Hora PLLC (ADH) is excited to announce that Attorney Elizabeth Menist, Attorney Carole Briggs and Senior Legal Assistant Elena Moore are joining ADH, effective June 1, 2022 from the DC law firm of Scheuermann & Menist. Menist has represented over one hundred condominium associations and cooperatives for the past 21 years. A graduate of Georgetown Law School, she also served as a law clerk in Fairfax County Circuit Court. Briggs brings to ADH over 30 years of experience representing community associations, as well as in real estate, commercial transactions and civil litigation matters. She is a graduate of George Washington National Law Center and received an LL.M. in Taxation from New York University’s Law School. At Scheuermann & Menist, Moore coordinated collection matters for the firm’s condominium and cooperative association clients, under the firm’s attorneys’ supervision. Moore received her Legal Assistant Certificate from George Washington University. After obtaining Bachelors and Masters Degrees, she also holds a Certificate of English Translation and Interpreting from the University of London, Moscow, Russia. ADH’s attorneys represent condominium associations, homeowners associations, housing cooperatives and individuals in matters related to governance, interpretation of governing documents, revisions to Bylaws, Declarations and Rules, and foreclosures. ADH keeps its community associations clients apprised of legal trends, changes in the law, and best practices with respect to community association living. Cary Devorsetz, who manages this practice area, is active with the Community Associations Institute’s (CAI) DC Legislative Action Committee, and was selected as CAI’s DC Metropolitan Chapter’s Advocate of the Year in 2019. Devorsetz has also served as a panelist on DC community association law at CAI’s DC Metropolitan Chapter’s annual exposition. Devorsetz graduated with honors from Hamilton College and received his J.D. from American University’s Washington College of Law. Associate Attorney Emma Eckert works with Devorsetz in the community associations practice group. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Penn State University and attended law school at The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. Before joining ADH in October 2021, Eckert served as a law clerk for a judge in the Bucks County, Pennsylvania Court of Common Pleas . She is licensed in the District of Columbia, New Jersey, and New York, and is active in CAI’s DC Public Outreach Committee. Collections and other matters within the community associations practice group are also handled by the Firm’s other professional staff, Tim Kovanic and Brianna Sargent-Harford. Kovanic graduated from the US Naval Academy and served as a legal officer in the United States Navy. Thereafter, he established a telecommunications company, and spent over ten years, developing skills for successfully pursuing debt collection matters. Brianna Sargent-Harford earned her BA, and soon thereafter joined ADH, where she assists ADH’s attorneys with administrative and research matters.
